Fertility support Torquay
From a chinese medicine perspective fertility is the body’s natural state. Fertility is a sign of overall health and wellbeing and infertility can be a sign of deeper disharmony.
CHINESE MEDICINE AND FERTILITY
As part of improving the health and fertility of the body there are a number of areas that Chinese medicine and acupuncture has traditionally been focused on supporting.
IMPROVING SPERM QUALITY
Yes, contrary to public bias or opinion for an unfortunate number of years male infertility is just a big a factor in a fertility journey.
Sperm health is critical to fertility outcomes and male testosterone levels and sperm health are being heavily impacted by technology, stress, microplastics, etc.
Three factors are important in sperm health: quantity, movement (motility) and structure (morphology)
Normal sperm values at current date are as follows:
Quantity: greater than 20 million sperm per ml
Motility: greater than 50% of sperm moving vigorously
Morphology: greater than 14 % with no deformities
HEALTHY MENSTRUAL CYCLE
A healthy and regulated menstrual cycle is typically between 28-30 days in length. There are no signs of PMS (premenstrual syndrome) such as breast tenderness, bloating, period pain, mood swings, and food cravings.
A healthy bleed is usually blood red in colour and without clotting, and last between 3-5 days.
HEALTHY OVULATION
Ideally ovulation should occur between days 13-15 of the menstrual cycle. This should also be the phase where energy levels peak during the cycle.
HEALTHY CERVICAL MUCOUS
With healthy cervical mucous it is easier for the sperm to swim into the fallopian tubes and fertilise an egg. Without cervical mucous present the sperm will perish before they even reach the egg.
Cervical mucous at ovulation should be clear, stretchy and a similar consistency to egg whites.
HEALTHY EGG QUALITY
It takes 90 days for a egg to mature and be ready for ovulation and during this window it can be affected by the following factors: diet, stress, hormones, lifestyle, health.
When preparing for conception Chinese medicine has always traditionally advocated for reducing stress, making dietary adjustments. As we said at the start of the blog: a healthy body is a fertile body.
